It was a pleasant surprise when Veronica emailed me to ask if I was willing to adopt The Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys SuperMystery series fanlisting. Of course, I couldn't refuse even if I wanted to.

I've been a fan of the series for a long time, even if -- to be perfectly honest -- I'm still a long way from completing the series. Thanks to BookMooch, though, I'm slowly getting my way there. :)

It's really just recently that I got into hentai movies. Maybe it's luck, but Daeva has put the fanlisting up for adoption, and after much thought, I decided to grab the chance to own it. So --- drum roll please --- the Hentai fanlisting!

I went through all the fanlistings I joined under TAFL Network and a couple from TFL Network. I updated and removed some links. I emailed (again) the owners of some fanlistings that seem to have problems, blah blah blah. I'll get to comb through everything before the month ends, I hope.

I hate dead and broken links.

I was a volunteer a few days ago for the first WordCamp in Southeast Asia, WordCamp Philippines 2008. Being a WordPress enthusiast myself, I didn't mind lending my time to the gracious organizers of the event, and I really enjoyed the whole day.

Best of all, I met Matt Mullenweg --- yes, the Photomatt, the founding developer of the WordPress. How's that for a late birthday gift, eh? He was lounging around the volunteers room when one of the organizers pulled me to him and introduced me. More of my story on my blog. I was really psyched up all about it. ;)

Two months ago, an Ubuntu Manila Meetup was held. It didn't come as a surprise that an Ubuntu Love Day would be organized.

I'm proud to be there. :) I've also managed to live-blog during the event. You may want to read them, if you're an Ubuntu fan like I am. If not, read them still. They may intrigue you enough to switch from Windows/something to Ubuntu! :)

Evidently, if I'm a fan of something, I'd go all the way. ;)

I turn twenty-one today, and one of the two best online gifts I've received as of late is finding the fanlisting for Kurama, a character from my most favorite animanga series of all time, Yu Yu Hakusho (the other is being greeted by the grandson of a former Philippine president and an esteemed political pundit himself, Manuel L. Quezon III).

Collective-wise, here are some new approvals:

Bleach: Episode 10 - Burari reiba totsugeki no tabi!

Joined a few fanlistings, rejoined one (I was an approved member before, but the move to a new location must have done something), updated some links, deleted a couple (those removed from the networks, those that are dead links, and those I've joined that haven't updated for more than 3 months). Sparse updates on some of my owned listings. Plus, re-writing some content. I tend to focus more on content than design, because I'm really just artistically challenged.

Been a little busy the past week, and will be more busy these coming weeks. A lot of bloggers' parties and activities, WordCamp Philippines 2008 (the first!), Philippine Blog Awards 2008...and I'm actively involved in all projects.

Tomorrow, I conquer Burger King. The chain of fast food restaurants is letting us bloggers have our way by giving us and our family & friends a treatment befitting of a royalty. Sometimes I love marketing events. =D

There are a lot of things I hate when it comes to websites, but broken links take the cake. It's even higher on my irritating things list than huge images, invalid and inaccessible pages, and non-working forms. That's why sometimes I don't understand it when some people can't manage their sites by weeding out dead links. It's a simple chore, really. Or maybe that's only me.

I got interviewed by Chalk Magazine, a so-called college lifestyle magazine in the Philippines, some time ago for its article about blogging. Said article was published in Chalk Mag's UAAP and NCAA back-to-back special issue this month (July 2008). It's my first major interview since last year's spread on a national broadsheet (TV and speedy interviews for some tech mag not included), and I expect another deluge of advertising offers. *sighs*

Scanner's acting up, so I took photos of the 2-page article which are posted on my Multiply. :)

I cleared my queue from The Anime Fanlistings Network within 3 days after 3 of my applications got approved by the network, and 1 of which I'm currently in the process of adopting.

Naruto: Yuuhi Kurenai (just waiting for the previous owner's response)
Naruto: Kanashimi wo Yasashisa ni (3rd Opening Theme)
Yu Yu Hakusho: Daydream Generation (5th Ending Theme)
Yu Yu Hakusho: Sayonara Byebye (2nd Ending Theme)

That's where the good news stops. While I will still check my email and the fanlistings for members/affiliate requests, I'm going to have to press pause on my online life for a while. My family is...well...not doing well. Problems just come storming in one after another. I think the family counseling/therapy is a go, and I won't be able to concentrate on all these fun stuff for a while.

I shall finish the remaining fanlistings in the upcoming list in about 2 weeks. Geez, I hate wasting time.

I really want to blame this all on the fact that I'm sooo tired from all the volunteer work I did today that I'm practically dead on my feet...err...stomach. Comforting the distraught relatives of the victims of the sunken Sulpicio Lines vessel for the past couple of days must be taking its toll. As of July 3 records, 56 people have survived the "accident," 259 people have been confirmed dead based on actual body count, and over 500 others have been listed as missing. A friend told me to take a break, but really, how about those poor people who are waiting for some closure in the case?

I apologize to the staff of The Anime Fanlistings Network for my stupidity. Really, really sorry. Putting my "social life" on hold must be causing me to read and write all the wrong things. ^_^

I've actually been busy with volunteer work, but the two fanlistings I adopted are up and running: Frank Hardy and Yusuke x Keiko. Now I'm just waiting for a couple of the fanlistings I applied for to be approved, especially those from The Anime Fanlistings Network since it's been 2 months already. ^_^

It feels great to help out, but the emotional turmoil is exhausting. The Sulpicio Lines victims and their families have been mourning since a vessel with 700 passengers sank (and while they're in mourning, the political b*st*rds are having a circus). Them, and the devastated victims of typhoon "Frank." Surprisingly (and thankfully), Bill Gates III donated $500,000 to the typhoon victims. Helluva lot better than the good-for-nothing local companies who just stood and watched the whole thing.

Much thanks to Veronica for for letting me adopt the Frank Hardy fanlisting. Frank has always been one of my favorite book characters (and I just adore the apparent attraction between him and Nancy Drew, heh), and it's such an honor to be the one maintaining his fanlisting now. So excited was I that I finished the fanlisting in less than 2 days, but then again, the layout isn't much to start with anyway.

Also, Hoshi has kindly given me the Yusuke x Keiko fanlisting. I rarely ever like canon pairs, but the duo just won me over with their lovers' spats. Come to think of it, I also adore Kuwabara x Yukina. And, of course, another favorite, Hiei and Mukuro. However, I still stand firmly on my opinion that the crack pairing of Botan and Kurama is still the best there is. *squeals like a fangirl* Ahem. Anyway, the YxK fanlisting isn't done yet, because I'm really not sure about that header I did. It has turned out that way because I wanted something a bit more different. Owee, and look at what I came up with. Ch!

Ahem. Sooo. I've been looking out for some collectives to "get KIM'd," as they say. More or less, I like adopting fanlistings of subjects that I love more than applying for them. While I'm sure the current owners are not likely to tire of the listings so soon, it still pays off to know that at least there's someone out there who's willing to catch the slack out of their sails (and I just stupidly played with some idiom) if they ever do decide to adopt the listings out.

Ahem. Sooo. I’ve been looking out for some collectives to “get KIM‘d,” as they say. More or less, I like adopting fanlistings of subjects that I love more than applying for them. While I’m sure the current owners are not likely to tire of the listings so soon, it still pays off to know that at least there’s someone out there who’s willing to catch the slack out of their sails (and I just stupidly played with some idiom) if they ever do decide to adopt the listings out.

I think that an "About Me" page is utterly unnecessary, but *some* people have compelled me to do a little introduction of myself because they're too lazy to visit my personal blog and start from there. *glares at the two of them*

So I've made two short and sweet paragraphs that you can read *points up*, and I hope that there's enough information to satisfy anyone's nonexistent curiosity. Those are the only things you'd need to know about me as a fan. ^_^

I really should get used to the thought of using photos I take from the internet. Giving credit has never been a problem, but I still find it extremely awkward when I have to take and use them. One of the many reasons why I'm not very fond of using images on my sites. Most of the time I just take my DVDs, watch them on VLC, then hit Snapshot during scenes I want to capture.
I can tolerate adverts on fanlistings, but too much of it is, well, too much. Maybe it's just me and my perspective on copyright. Let me put it this way: Just because I edited it, doesn't mean it's mine. Thus, I'm not inclined to earn money on something not "mine" in every sense of the word. Additionally, I don't like slapping the copyright sign to something not entirely mine.
I make my own brushes and textures --- sometimes taking from random resources --- and get patterns from ♥Squidfingers♥, but I have yet to understand how "graphic editing" works. Maybe I'm doomed to be a code "expert" forever...and I'm not even an expert. Pfft.

The old look was so passé, it made me cringe just by looking at it.

I've been quite a busy fan these past few days.

Though there's not much difference from the way it looked before, the collective has been tweaked drastically for maximum loading time and, yes, security (though there isn't much I can do for the scripts I'm using). The files have been optimized and compressed, so the homepage should load in well under 10 seconds for internet users with 56K connection. Of course, it's another story for both the joined and owned pages; heaven knows how many randomly-sized images are sitting there.

A subject field has been added to my contact form, and I'm still debating whether to allow file attachments or not (given that it may be abused by an idiotic user). And I've also managed to make two 100x50 buttons, finally. ^_^

All my fanlistings have been cleaned and (slightly) compressed too, but they still need to be revamped (so to speak), especially the ones with the hideous layouts. *coughs*Serena*coughs* Hopefully, everything will be "fixed" within 2 days.

(Edit: I realize I haven't joined fanlistings in a while. I think I'll start with the Actresses category, then skip over to the one after Music Miscellany.)

Over 8 Million Firefox Downloads

And it's pushing to 9.5 million as I write this, but, from the Mozilla Blog,

[...] our judges will be reviewing the time period from 11:16 a.m. PDT on June 17th to 11 a.m. PDT on June 18th.

The beginning proved to be quite a pain because the Mozilla site crashed 5 minutes to Download Day. It seemed that the server couldn't handle the sudden strain, which was to be expected anyway.

Still, congratulations to Mozilla Firefox and its users for a successful attempt, even though the entry still needs to be validated.
